Setting up your Automattic Creator Program account

The Automattic Affiliate Program uses the Impact affiliate network to manage tracking links, commissions, and payments. If you’re new to affiliate marketing or Impact, the signup process can feel like a lot of information at once. This guide walks you through creating your account, applying to the Automattic Creator Program, and checking your application status.

If you’re new to Impact

If you don’t already have an Impact account, start by signing up through the Automattic Creator Program signup page.

Create your account

On the signup page:

Review the program offer and terms.
Choose if you want to continue using a Google account, Apple account, or other email
- If you select to signup with Google or Apple, follow the prompts to authenticate your account.
Enter your email address, first and last name, a password, and a mobile phone number.
Select Continue.
Verify your mobile phone number via the code sent to your mobile phone.
Fill out your account details:
- Your Country, Timezone, and Currency are pre-filled from your IP address, and your Account name comes from the name you entered, unless that name is already in use. Review each one. Choose your payment currency carefully. You won’t be able to change your currency after your application is approved.
- Take some time to review the Automattic Creator Program Terms and Conditions. You can also download a copy of the terms for your records. Select the checkbox to accept the Partner Program Agreement.
- Set your email preference.
- Select Continue, and your account will be created.

Complete your application checklist

Your application checklist will open one your account has been successfully created. This checklist covers the information we need to review your application for partnership.

This process should take approximately 5 minutes to complete:

Categorize your business: tell us what kind of business you run and how you operate
Connect your channels: add at least one website or social media channel. Ensure the accounts you add are relevant to your application. Impact requires website verification and social media authentication.
Complete your profile: this step appears once you have connected a channel to Impact. Your profile logo and description are generated from your authenticated website or social media account. You can edit this within your account later as well.
Review your profile: check the information in your application, make any edits you need, then select Next to finish.

Your application is now complete and is on its way to us to review.

Impact Marketplace

After you’ve submitted your program application, Impact may also prompt you to complete a marketplace application. The Impact partner marketplace lets you see and work with additional brands on Impact.

This is separate from your application to the Automattic Creator Program and is not required.

If you’re only interested in joining the Automattic Affiliate Program, you can focus on your Automattic application and don’t need to follow the marketplace prompt.

You should be aware that:

The Marketplace is not required for participation in the Automattic Creator Program.
Impact does not make it clear to new affiliates that you must have more than 10,000 followers on a social media platform to successfully join the Marketplace. Incomplete profiles or those with too few followers are likely to be declined by Impact for the Marketplace.
Automattic has no input into who is approved for the Impact Marketplace. If you choose to join it, please review the information about the Impact Marketplace and their review process.

The marketplace prompt may continue to appear in Impact even while your Automattic application is being reviewed. Don’t worry if you see it. It doesn’t mean that you’ve missed a step in your Automattic application.

If you’re new to affiliate marketing, we recommend waiting to join the Impact Marketplace. While joining the Marketplace is necessary to partner with other brands in the future, it will not affect your application to partner with us.

If you already have an Impact account

You don’t need to create a new account. Log into your existing Impact account follow these quick steps:

Click on Discover in the top bar, then select Find Brands.
Search for Automattic.
Hover over the brand image and click on the blue Apply button to apply to the Automattic Creator Program.
Review and agree to the Automattic Creator Program Terms and Conditions. You can also include a note explaining why you would like to work with us.
Click Apply to submit your application.

If you don’t see the Apply button in your account, then it’s likely that you’re not approved for the Impact Marketplace. Please reach out to us directly at affiliates@automattic.com.

What happens after I submit my Automattic Creator Program application?

Once you’ve submitted your application, you’ll receive a confirmation email to let you know that we’ve received it in the Impact system. Our team will review your application as quickly as possible, however please be aware that the process may take several days. If we have follow up questions for you, we’ll contact you via the email address you provided in your application, so be sure to check for any communications from us.

To check the status of your Automattic Creator Program application:

Log into your Impact account.
Click on Discover in the top bar, then Applications.
Adjust the filters to Sent Invite.
Any pending applications will appear in the list.

If your application is still under review, no further action is needed unless we contact you for additional information.

If you’re approved, you’ll receive an email notification with additional information and you’ll be able to access your partnership links through the Discover > My Brands section.

If you’re declined, the brand will appear back in the list under Discover > Find Brands. You’re welcome to reapply, however we encourage you to contact us with any questions so we can provide feedback.

You may still see prompts from Impact asking you to complete your marketplace application while your Automattic application is under review. You can ignore those prompts if you don’t want to apply to other brands.

Once you’re approved

When your application is approved, you’ll receive a welcome email from the Automattic Creator Program.

You’ll then be able to access the Automattic program in Impact and start setting up your promotional links.

If you’re brand new to affiliate marketing, you may see several options in Impact that you don’t need right away. You don’t need to use every feature available to you.

A good place to start is:

Find a tracking link for the Automattic product you want to promote within the Content section in Impact. We provide a wide assortment of text links and banners for your use.
Or choose a page or product on one of our sites that is relevant to your audience and use the Create a Link widget in your Impact account to turn the URL into a tracking link.
Add your chosen tracking link to your website, social media content, video description, email, or other eligible promotional property.
Make sure you properly disclose your relationship with Automattic when you share affiliate links.

If your application is still under review, there’s nothing else you need to do unless our team contacts you. Please remember to check your email in case we’re trying to reach you.

You don’t need to complete Impact’s separate marketplace application to wait for or receive a decision on your Automattic application.
